Ludlow Choral Society's concert A German Christmas will feature late Renaissance and early Baroque music. It will be a collaboration with virtuoso period wind instrument group, the English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble.
The programme includes The Christmas Story (Weinachtshistorie) by early Baroque composer Heinrich Schütz. The piece tells the story through a series of musical tableaux, each depicting a nativity scene. These are brought to life colourfully with different combinations of instruments and voices.
There will also be a sparkling selection of shorter pieces including some well-loved familiar tunes to recognise and an imaginative array of line ups: richly textured pieces for double choir and instruments, pieces for voices alone and some instrumental numbers.
There will be a stellar cast of soloists, and the conductor will be Nicola Starkie, the choir's Musical Director.
Tickets £18 (18s and under free) from Ludlow Assembly Rooms, HERE or at the door.
If you are interested in joining the choir, new members are always welcome. There are no auditions and there is plenty of support for new or returning singers. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings in term time at Ludlow Methodist Church. Contact membership.ludlowchoral@gmail.com.
